On Saturday Pool beat Boro 2-1 in the most exciting regular season Pool comeback I've seen.

The boys were the superior side in the first half, but failed to score. Gerrard was lethargic and ineffective, but still, I was confident going into the second period. After the break, Boro asserted itself, making Pool look horrid, until Mido ripped a beautiful shot past Reina from thirty yards (70'). Boro looked headed for the win until, in minute 85, Carra (!) charged an in-box deflection that looked to have hit the hand of a Boro defender -- but no whistle -- and fired a shot on goal that deflected off Pogatetz and past the Boro keeper.

At 1-1, I was relieved to be escaping with a point, but Boro attacked with vigor. They almost scored at 88' when Reina left the line but failed to corral the ball; he was saved by Carragher. Four minutes of injury time were tacked on, largely because Boro's O'Neil faked an injury late in the game to waste time. So sorry, Gary: with seconds left, Keane chested a ball to an onrushing Gerrard at the top of the box, and the Captain crushed it past the Boro keeper for the winner (94'). It was one of those balls that was still accelerating and rising when it hit the net. Finishes like that are why you stay a fan.

Still, we've got problems. Gerrard -- game winner aside -- was awful, totally absent until the final minutes, and Alonzo was even worse, creating nothing and often gifting Boro with poor passes. We'll need better than that to challenge for the title, lads.
