YES!

Liverpool just smashed Chelsea 2-nil. I watched the game at a pub, and had several beers, so I can't offer terribly insightful analysis. Suffice it to say that the Reds won handily. What a great game to watch as a Scouser fan!

Kuyt scored in the fourth minute and Pennant hit a beautiful long range strike in the 18th. Chelsea looked sluggish and bad. Terry, Carvalho and Makelele were missing, and it showed. Liverpool could have had at least two more goals.

One odd thing: Liverpool has played Chelsea three times this year (Community Shield and twice in the league) and outplayed them all three times (although they lost this season's earlier fixture at Chelsea). Conversely, Liverpool has played Arsenal three times, and been thoroughly outplayed each time. What does this mean? It means I may have to start rooting against Arsenal in the CL...

Getting ready to watch my Reds trounce villianous Chelsea...but also wanted to mention that the USMNT team (in a game that has received very little press) plays Denmark in a friendly today (3:50 Central on ESPN2) and Arsenal plays Man U Sunday at 10AM Central. It's an excellent weekend for futbol!

Plus, there's American football as well: the two conference championships, which are often very good games. I'm picking the Saints and the Colts. I love Belichick, but he has to lose sometime. Plus, Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy deserve to shed their "choker" label. They're both great sportsman.

Liverpool-Chelsea this Saturday, 6:45AM Texas time. I'll be watching at Trinity Hall here in Dallas.

Liverpool played Chelsea tough earlier this season, losing 1-nil on Drogba's excellent swivel shot. This is a big game, at home, that I expect the Reds to take. Liverpool's 14 points behind Man U, so there's no chance it can win the Premiership, but a win here will solidify the Reds' 3rd place position and put them within 5 points of second place Chelsea. I'd really like to see the Reds play a month of winning football before taking on Barcelona at the end of February in the CL.
